Hiring a DOP/Cinematographer

Fountains is an indie film that will be shot around Sydney in February/March 2010. Locations are Hyde Park, Sydney Uni, Fort Denison and Kings Cross. I am looking to hire a DP/Cameraman. I have all the equipment needed – in terms of cameras and lenses. It needs you to complete the project! Shoot hours have been chosen so there is adequate outdoor lighting.

Fountains is a romantic comedy. One particular shot is a matrix-style bullet-time sequence with 55 cameras. I bought and rigged the cameras over the past year and have just finished testing it. I will also be using HDR Timelapse techniques for some shots. This is quite interesting on a technical basis, and the DOP/Cinematographer will also get to work with this equipment. Our primary camera is a Canon 7D. Backup cameras are 1x HV20 and 1x HV30. Mics are Sony HiMDs for lav mics and a Rode VideoMic.

Shoot hours will be dawn – 5-7 a.m. weekdays at Hyde Park, some nights around the Hyde Park fountain, evenings approx 3-7 p.m. at Sydney Uni (with the Sydney Uni Gymnastics club), a single weekday at Fort Denison, half a day at Kings Cross and half a day of filming dance sequences at a theater. We will need to travel over a day to a park where there are lots of kangaroos, I have to scope out some places close to Sydney to figure out exactly where. We can work out the hours together so that the actors and DP can both be available.

In true indie style, we are not using film permits, hence there is a possibility that a shoot may not occur and we get kicked out. Or we may not have access on the day.

If someone has experience, or knows someone who does KAP (Aerial Photography) that is a bonus.

This will be a paid job, and I would consider availability and flexible hours as well as the extent of experience. I cannot pay industry rates, so an ideal candidate would be someone who finds this project interesting, and views it as a way to gain experience and work with interesting technology whilst getting paid. Since some shots will have to be planned on the day, someone living in and around Sydney would be preferred.
